‘Where Has The Rs 10,000 Crore Disappeared?’ Rahul Asks PM Modi

On April 11, 2024, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, launched a scathing critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the Union government’s Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme. In a post on X, Gandhi expressed his frustration over the government’s failure to deliver tangible job opportunities for the youth, despite Modi’s frequent proclamations and catchy slogans. He questioned the Prime Minister’s commitment to addressing the pressing issue of unemployment in India, asking, “What is your concrete plan to generate the crores of jobs India desperately needs, or is this just another jumla?”

Gandhi’s remarks came in the wake of Modi’s announcement of the ELI scheme, which was touted as a significant initiative aimed at providing employment to the youth following the 2024 elections. However, nearly a year has passed since the scheme was unveiled, and Gandhi pointed out that the government has yet to define its parameters or implement it effectively. He asked, “Prime Minister-ji, you announced ELI with great showmanship — but where has this Rs 10,000 crore scheme disappeared?” This question underscores the skepticism surrounding the government’s ability to follow through on its promises.

He further inquired, “Have you abandoned our unemployed youth along with your promises?” This rhetorical question reflects the growing disillusionment among young people who are eager for job opportunities but feel let down by the government’s inaction.

Gandhi also challenged Modi to reconsider his priorities, asking, “When will you shift your focus from enriching Adani and your billionaire friends to ensuring that young people from marginalized communities have equal access to employment?” This statement highlights a broader concern regarding economic inequality and the perception that government policies disproportionately benefit wealthy industrialists at the expense of ordinary citizens.

In his remarks, Gandhi outlined a vision for job creation that emphasizes the importance of large-scale investment in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
