Nation Steeped In Hatred Can Never Progress: Rahul Hits Out At BJP Govt

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, criticized the BJP-led Union government. He accused them of distracting the public from real issues and favoring wealthy capitalists. Gandhi emphasized that a country filled with hatred cannot progress and urged people to reject hate, stating that India “was and shall always remain” a country of love.

This transpired as Gandhi began a two-day visit to his constituency, Rae Bareli. He interacted with party workers and youth in Bachhrawan and later unveiled a statue of Rana Beni Madhav Singh, a hero of the 1857 Indian Mutiny, in Jagatpur, Unchahar.

During a public event, he made a remark about the media. He said, “I have to say they (media) are our friends, but in reality, they are friends of Modi, Adani, and Ambani.” He pointed out that the media does not cover important issues like farmers, laborers, or inflation. Instead, they focus on lavish weddings and luxury items.

Gandhi stated that the media should hold the government accountable for its actions, but they are not doing their job properly. He praised the contributions of Rana Beni Madhav Singh and Beera Paasi in the 1857 mutiny, saying that all great leaders fought for India’s Constitution, which gives a voice to the poor, laborers and farmers.

He said, “This Constitution is the voice of India. Gandhi, Ambedkar, and Nehru gave us this Constitution.” He reminded everyone that political parties and the media have a duty to protect the Constitution, but he believes the media is failing in this regard.

Gandhi also claimed that the country is being “sold,” mentioning that airports, ports, and railways are being privatized. He said, “The Congress is fighting, and I am fighting on the streets. But the media is not helping us.” He expressed confidence that they would win their fight.

He pointed out that inflation has risen significantly and accused the BJP government of only supporting wealthy capitalists. Referring to his Bharat Jodo Yatra, he said, “A country that is divided and steeped in hatred can never progress.” He explained that the Yatra aimed to promote a message of harmony and love across India.

Gandhi urged people to resist forces that try to divide India on the basis of religion, language, or caste. He stated, “This has been a country of love, and so shall it remain.”

Earlier in the day, Gandhi visited the Hanuman temple at the Churuva border and then addressed a conference of party workers in Bachhrawan. He encouraged them to strengthen their presence at the booth level.

Meanwhile, some BJP workers claimed they were placed under house arrest during Gandhi’s visit. BJP mandal president Pravesh Verma alleged that he and 25 workers were confined to the Nagar Panchayat office. He stated that it is the MP’s responsibility to listen to the people’s problems. However, there was no confirmation from the police regarding the house arrest.
