Prabhakaran’s son executed in cold blood

Mar 13, 2012 | Pratirodh Bureau

A documentary on  civil war between Sri Lankan government and LTTE  dated 2009 shows LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran\\\’s 12-year old son lying stripped to the waist with five bullet holes on his chest.

The 60-minute documentary-\\\’Sri Lanka\\\’s Killing Fields: War Crimes Unpunished\\\’, made by Callum Macrae will be broadcast on Channel 4 on Wednesday.

In his article titled ‘Sri Lanka: A child is summarily executed’ which was published in the British newspaper The Independent, Callum Macrae has claimed that the boy Balachandran Prabhakaran was executed in cold blood by the Sri Lankan forces.

The video shows dead bodies of five men, supposedly the descriptionguards of Balachandran, lying besides his description.

"There are strips of cloth on the ground indicating that they were tied and blindfolded before they were shot — further evidence suggesting that the Sri Lankan government forces had a systematic policy of executing many surrendering or captured LTTE fighters and leading figures, even if they were children,” Macrae wrote.

The chilling video seems to be a trophy video shot by Sri Lankan troops present during the cold blooded execution of LTTE members, towards the end of civil war.

The newspaper has quoted forensic pathologist professor Derrick Pounder saying that it was possible that the boy was made to watch the execution of his blindfolded guards before being shot.

We can imagine the psychological torture the boy must have gone through by witnessing the execution of his descriptionguards and then being shot by someone standing in front of him, the documentary says.

The documentary further states that there are documents obtained from a Sri Lankan officer that support these claims. The officer has stated that the boy was interrogated about his father\\\’s whereabouts and then killed.

The report comes ahead of a crucial vote on a US backed resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council session in Geneva – demanding an immediate probe into atrocities by Lankan soldiers.

Last year too, Channel 4 had showed a documentary- \\\’Sri Lanka\\\’s Killing Fields\\\’, which accused both the LTTE and the Sri Lankan government of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
