Police brutality exposed in Jharkhand
Jan 25, 2012 | Kavita KrishnanOver a dozen of CPI (ML) activists were injured when Jharkhand police brutally lathi charged them while they were peacefully protesting in Garhwa on Tuesday.
A party oficial informed that CPI(ML) activists Kalicharan Mehta, Kishore Kumar, Rahina Begum, the elected Pramukh of Danda block in Garhwa district, and the party\\\’s State Standing Committee member Anant Gupta were severely injured in the condemnable act of Jharkhand police.
Meanwhile, party activists Sushma Mehta, Akhtar Ansari and their driver, who were abducted by Maoists on January 21 were released on Tuesday but their security guard still remains under their captivity.
CPI(ML) has thanked various democratic groups for extending their solidarity and support to the party in getting these activists released unhurt.
The party official also said that "the CPI(ML) activists, who were arrested on false charges of conspiring with Maoists for the January 21 blast were produced in front of a magistrate on Tuesday and have been now sent to judicial custody."
The CPI(ML) members also met the Jharkhand Governor and asked him to ensure safe release of the security guard from the captivity of Maoists.
The members also asked the Governor to take action against those police officials who are involved in false implication of the CPI(ML) activists in the blast that was triggered by Maoists in Garhwa on January 21.
They also informed the governor that the activists are being mentally and physically tortured in the custody.
The party members further told him that police and local administration have for some time now, launched a drive to falsely implicate the CPI(ML) leaders , to crush the growing assertion of the party in Garhwa.
Condemning the blast, abduction by Maoists, and the police brutality, the party members reiterated its demand that the State and Central governments should make all possible efforts to end the conspiracy and campaign by the Jharkhand police and administration to suppress democratic people\\\’s movements led by the CPI(ML).
