‘Maximum Boasts, Minimum Achievements’: Congress Attacks Shah

"The Union home minister (Amit Shah) has failed miserably in bringing the Pahalgam terrorists to justice. He has failed monumentally in bringing about normalcy in Manipur," Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said
The Congress party, on June 10, strongly criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s claims of having established peace in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast, labeling his assertions as “bizarre” and a diversion from his “colossal failures.” The opposition party argued that Shah’s tenure has been marked by “maximum boasts, minimum achievements,” particularly in addressing critical security challenges.
Shah, in a post on X, had lauded the Narendra Modi government’s 11-year tenure as a “golden period” of resolve and dedication to public service. He highlighted achievements such as the weakening of Naxalism, the establishment of peace in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast, and India’s assertive response to terrorist attacks. “Naxalism is on its last legs, peace has been established in Jammu-Kashmir and the Northeast, India now responds to terrorist attacks by entering the homes of terrorists. This shows the changing picture of India under the Modi government,” Shah stated.
In response, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh took to X to express his disagreement, stating that Shah’s claims were “meant to divert attention from his own colossal failures.” Ramesh pointed to the ongoing unrest in Manipur and the unresolved Pahalgam terror attack as evidence contradicting Shah’s assertions.
Ramesh specifically highlighted the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, emphasizing that the perpetrators “have still NOT been brought to justice.” He further alleged that these terrorists were also involved in previous attacks in Poonch, Gagangir, and Gulmarg, raising concerns about the effectiveness of security measures.
The situation in Manipur was another focal point of Ramesh’s criticism. “Manipur continues to burn. The much-delayed President’s Rule has been a miserable failure. Law and order is in a perilous condition,” he stated. He emphasized the “frustration, agony, and anger of the people of the state at the condition of their daily lives and livelihoods,” suggesting a disconnect between the government’s claims and the reality on the ground.
Ramesh directly accused Shah of failing to either bring the Pahalgam terrorists to justice or restore normalcy in Manipur. “The Union home minister has failed miserably in bringing the Pahalgam terrorists to justice. He has failed monumentally in bringing about normalcy in Manipur,” Ramesh asserted.
The Congress party has been particularly critical of the government’s handling of the situation in Manipur, especially in light of recent violence. It has accused Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah of mishandling the situation in the northeastern state.
Ramesh continued his critique by questioning Shah’s overall performance as Union Home Minister. “Never has India had a Union home minister whose tenure has been one of Maximum Boasts, Minimum Achievements, unless what he has been able to do for his son can count for that,” he remarked, suggesting that Shah’s achievements were limited to personal gains rather than significant improvements in national security.
Shah had previously stated that the country’s development had been transformed by “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance” during the Modi government’s 11 years. However, the Congress party’s response indicates a starkly different assessment of the government’s performance, particularly in the areas of internal security and conflict resolution.
