Dalit Man Beaten Up By Mob After Road Accident In Alwar Dies

Jul 20, 2019 | Pratirodh Bureau

A Dalit man was lynched in the Alwar district of Rajasthan on July 18, reportedly in the wake of a road accident.

As per a report in Mirror Now, the victim, 28-year-old Harish Jatav, was passing through Jhirana village on a two-wheeler, when he rammed his vehicle into an elderly woman.

Subsequently, a mob surrounded him and beat him up brutally. As per a bystander, the men in the mob which assaulted Jatav later fled the scene of crime and alerted the police.

Left lying in a pool of blood, Jatav was rushed to a local health centre. From there, he was referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, where he succumbed to multiple injuries on his head.

A case has been registered under the Chopanki Police Station, and Jatav’s body has been sent for post-mortem. Speaking to Mirror Now, Rati Ram, Jatav’s father said, “I want absolute justice.”

Mob violence has witnessed an upward trend in the second term of the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party government in several parts of the country. On the same day as the Alwar incident, three men in Bihar’s Saran district, accused of stealing cattle by locals in the Baniyapur village, were reportedly beaten to death by villagers. The police took the men to the hospital, but they were pronounced brought dead.
