“PM Modi Had ‘Prior Intel’ On Pahalgam Attack, Cancelled Kashmir Visit”

May 6, 2025 | Pratirodh Bureau

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the Narendra Modi government is trying to destroy MGNREGA, the lifeline of the poor

The recent Pahalgam terror attack has sparked a heated debate between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress party. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of receiving an “intelligence report” three days before the attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people.

“Why the Centre did not deploy more security even after having intelligence report on terror attack?” Kharge asked, while addressing the ‘Sanvidhan Bachao Rally’ in Ranchi. He further questioned the Centre’s accountability for the loss of lives in the Pahalgam attack, saying, “Shouldn’t Centre be accountable for the loss of lives in the Pahalgam attack when it accepted intelligence failure?”

Kharge’s comments come after the Congress party accused the Narendra Modi-led government of serious “lapses in security and intelligence” and criticised the Centre for not coming up with a clear strategy to deal with the Pahalgam terror attack situation. The Congress president also extended his party’s full support to the government for any action against Pakistan, saying, “Country (is) supreme beyond (the) party.”

However, the BJP has hit back at Kharge’s remarks, accusing the Congress party of trying to “lower the morale of security forces.” Jharkhand BJP chief Babulal Marandi said, “Congress’s intention is to lower the morale of security forces. This is not the time for politics, but for unity and solidarity in the fight against terrorism and Pakistan.”

Marandi’s comments come at a critical time when the “fight against terrorism and Pakistan was at a decisive juncture.” He also criticised the Congress party for indulging in politics when the nation is fighting against terror. “The nation is fighting against terrorism and Pakistan, and this is not the time for politics. We should stand united and support our security forces in this fight,” Marandi said.

Meanwhile, the government is gearing up for a nationwide mock drill on Wednesday, which will be conducted in about 300 ‘civil defence districts’ in India. A high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on Tuesday discussed how to conduct the mock drill with active participation of the people.

The mock drill is aimed at testing the preparedness of the country’s civil defence system in the event of a terrorist attack or any other emergency situation. The government has asked all states and union territories to participate in the mock drill and to ensure that people are aware of the emergency procedures and protocols.

As the nation prepares for the mock drill, the debate between the BJP and the Congress party is likely to continue. However, it is essential that the parties put aside their differences and work together to support the government’s efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of the people.

In Kharge’s words, “(The) country (is) supreme beyond (the) party.” It is time for the parties to come together and support the government’s efforts to fight against terrorism and Pakistan. The nation is at a critical juncture, and it is essential that everyone stands united and supports our security forces in this fight.
