YouTube, Gmail, Google Face Massive Global Outage

Many services from Alphabet Inc, including YouTube, Gmail, Google and Google Drive, were down for thousands of users across the globe on Monday.

According to the popular website Down Detector, many Google services including YouTube, Gmail, Google and Google Drive were not working for many users. Apart from these websites, Down Detector claims that even Google Play, Google Maps, Google Hangouts, Google Duo and Google Meet were not working for several users.

The website further claims that the aforementioned services are facing troubles not only in India but in many other parts of the world, including Europe, the United States and more.

So far, the website has received complains from over 26,000 people for YouTube alone.

YouTube has responded to its users via its official Twitter handle.

“We are aware that many of you are having issues accessing YouTube right now – our team is aware and looking into it. We’ll update you here as soon as we have more news,” Team YouTube said in its tweet.

The sudden outage of Google services caused people to rush to different solutions, including switching to different browsers to check if the situation gets alleviated. Some users said on Twitter that they tried using YouTube and Gmail on Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Safari browsers to make these websites work but in vain. Google Search is, however, working well on any browser.

The outage has not only affected web services but caused apps and smart devices to become temporarily inaccessible. Users are reporting that smart Nest speakers are also failing to connect to Google servers. This would mean that Gmail, YouTube, and Drive apps on your Android smartphone, tablet, iPhone, iPad, and Nest speakers will not work as long as the outage continues. Some users have also reported that some games, including Pokemon Go, have also stopped working.
