Women boxers do India proud

Indian women boxers MC Mary Com and L Sarita Devi clinched gold medals at the sixth Asian women\\\’s boxing championship in Mongolia.

Overall, the Indian team finished second to China in the championship with rich haul of two golds, four silver and two bronze medals.
Mary Kom, in the Olympic weight category of 51kgs defeated twice world champion and Asian Games 2010 gold medallist Ren Cancan of China 14:8.
In the 60kgs, which is another Olympic Games weight category, 2006 World Champion Sarita Devi defeated Chorieva Mavzuna of Tajkistan 16:9.
The other four Indians- Pinky Jangra (48kg), Sonia Lather (54), Monica Saun (69kg) and Puja Rani (75kg) -had to settle for silver as they lost their respective final bouts.
The five-time world champion Mary Kom said that she is happy with her performance in the tournament.
"In the past one year, a lot of comments have been made about me. Some said I am past my prime, that I am denying other more deserving boxers  their chance but I am glad that I have been able to prove myself,"  Kom said.
Mary Kom amd Sarita\\\’s sucess in the championship has raised the hopes of Indian women boxers qualifying for the London games.
The Olympic qualifying tournament, the AIBA World Championships, will be held from May 9-20 in Qinhuangdao in China.
