Notice to cops over obscene IPL show

Pop singer Katy Perry and several other Bollywood stars may face legal trouble for shaking legs at the opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 5.

The Madras high court has asked the senior police officials in Tamil Nadu to respond to a petition seeking criminal action against pop singer Katy Perry and several Bollywood actors for their alleged obscene performance at the IPL 5 opening ceremony on April 3 in Chennai.
In his plea, a 32-year-old advovate K Jebakumar, stated that the performance of Katy and Bollywood artists, including Kareena Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, priyanka Chopra and Australian cricketer Douglas Bolinger was indecent and obscene.
Jebakumar told the court that he had lodged a complaint with the police on April 4 but the officials did not pay heed to it.
He said the "semi-nude dances denigrated men and women" and appealed to the "prurient interest" of public and therefore the celebrities were liable to be booked under Sections 292 (sale of obscene books), 293 (sale of obscene objects to young persons) and 294 (obscene acts and songs) of IPC.
He also submitted some photographic evidences in the court to prove that the performances were obscene.
The petitioner pleaded the court to ask media not to re-broadcast aur re-publish the contents of the show as such events are mostly watched by students.
