Monsoon Session: Cong Seeks PM’s Reply On Pahalgam Attack, Trump Remarks

With the Monsoon session of Parliament having commenced, the Congress party called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be present during discussions surrounding the contentious issue of “Pahalgam-Operation Sindoor-President Trump.” Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, emphasized the importance of the Prime Minister’s presence, stating, “He owes it to the country to be present when the issue of Pahalgam-Operation Sindoor-President Trump is finally taken up for discussion.”

Ramesh did not hold back in his criticism of Modi’s recent foreign travels, remarking, “48 hours later, the Super Premium Frequent Flyer will start yet another foreign visit, and the people of Manipur will have more cause for disappointment.” This comment comes in light of Modi’s upcoming four-day trip to the United Kingdom and the Maldives, which is aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and formalizing the landmark India-UK free trade deal.

In a post shared on X prior to the session, Ramesh predicted that the “nattily dressed Prime Minister will give his usual Desh ke Naam Sandesh through the media outside the Parliament building before the commencement of the Monsoon Session.” He characterized this address as being filled with “his usual platitudes and hypocrisy,” suggesting that the Prime Minister often avoids substantive engagement in Parliament.

Ramesh pointed out that Modi is “very, very, very rarely present in Parliament,” noting that he typically speaks only once a year during the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address. He reiterated the necessity for Modi to engage directly with the pressing issues at hand, particularly the Pahalgam incident, which has drawn significant public and political scrutiny.

The government indicated its willingness to discuss Operation Sindoor during an all-party meeting held on the eve of the Monsoon session. However, the opposition, particularly the INDIA bloc, has insisted that Prime Minister Modi should personally address the matter, as well as respond to U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims regarding a ceasefire and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

The Congress party has been vocal in its demand for Modi to take responsibility and respond to various pressing issues during the Monsoon session. Ramesh stated, “Prime Minister Modi himself should respond to debates in Parliament’s Monsoon session on various issues, including the Pahalgam attack, Trump’s ceasefire claims, and SIR in Bihar.” This call for accountability reflects the opposition’s strategy to hold the government responsible for its actions and decisions.

As the Monsoon session unfolds, the opposition is poised to challenge the government on multiple fronts. Leaders of the INDIA bloc convened to strategize and present a united front against the government, particularly concerning intelligence failures that led to the Pahalgam attack, Trump’s ceasefire claims, and the SIR in Bihar. The opposition’s coordinated efforts aim to ensure that these critical issues are thoroughly debated and addressed in Parliament.

The Monsoon session is set to be a battleground for political discourse, with the Congress party and the INDIA bloc demanding accountability from Prime Minister Modi. As Ramesh aptly put it, the Prime Minister’s presence is not just a formality; it is a responsibility he must fulfill to address the concerns of the nation. The stage is set for a significant parliamentary session, where the opposition will seek to hold the government accountable for its actions and decisions.
