Two days after the arrest of senior journalist Mohammad Abbas Kazmi on charges of involvement in the attack on the Israeli diplomat in Delhi, several eminent journalists condemned the arrest calling it an attack on the freedom of press in the country.
“This arrest of a high-profile journalist is an attack on the journalistic fraternity in the country. They (State) want to see how many of us can be cowed down by such arrests,” said veteran journalist Saeed Naqvi, who has also worked with Kazmi. Naqvi was speaking at a jam packed press conference, called by the Delhi Union of Journalists and other press bodies, raising concern over Kazmi’s arrest.
