‘Govt Has Stopped Talking About Present, Now Selling Dreams Of 2047’

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sharply criticized the Narendra Modi government’s 11-year tenure, alleging a lack of accountability and an overemphasis on propaganda. His remarks came in the wake of a tragic incident in Maharashtra’s Thane district, where at least four passengers lost their lives and six others were injured after falling from a moving and overcrowded local train.

In a post shared on X, Gandhi expressed his concerns, stating, “While the Modi government is celebrating 11 years of ‘service’, the reality of the country is reflected in the tragic news coming from Mumbai – several people died after falling from a train.” This statement underscores his belief that the government’s focus on self-congratulation is misplaced, especially in light of the pressing issues facing the nation.

Gandhi further emphasized the critical role of Indian Railways, describing it as “the backbone of the lives of crores of people.” However, he lamented that it has now become “a symbol of insecurity, congestion, and chaos.” His comments highlight the growing frustrations among the public regarding the state of the railway system, which is often seen as a vital component of daily life for millions of Indians.

The Congress leader’s critique extended beyond the immediate tragedy, as he pointed out a broader trend in the government’s approach. “11 years of Modi government = no accountability, no change, only propaganda,” he asserted. This, therefore, reflects Gandhi’s view that the government has failed to address the real issues affecting citizens, instead opting to promote an idealized vision of the future. He noted, “The government has stopped talking about 2025 and is now selling dreams of 2047,” suggesting that the administration is more focused on long-term promises rather than addressing current challenges.

Gandhi’s comments indicate that the government’s priorities are misaligned with the needs of the populace. He questioned, “Who will look into what the country is facing today?” This question highlights the disconnect between the government’s narrative and the lived experiences of ordinary citizens.

In expressing his condolences, Gandhi stated, “I express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

The train incident occurred between Diva and Kopar railway stations while the train was en route to Kasara. According to police officials, the accident likely happened when commuters hanging from the footboards of two overcrowded trains brushed against each other as the trains passed in opposite directions. Railway officials have yet to confirm the exact number of fatalities, but the incident has raised serious concerns about safety and overcrowding on the railways.

Gandhi’s remarks and the tragic train incident serve as a stark reminder of the challenges facing the Indian Railways and the broader implications for public safety. As the government marks over a decade in power, the call for accountability and tangible improvements in infrastructure and services becomes increasingly urgent. The juxtaposition of celebratory rhetoric against the backdrop of such tragedies raises critical questions about the effectiveness of the current administration and its commitment to the welfare of its citizens.

Rahul Gandhi’s critique of the Modi government encapsulates a growing sentiment among many Indians who are calling for a more accountable and responsive government. The tragic train incident serves as a poignant reminder of the real-life consequences of political inaction and the urgent need for reform in essential services like the railways.
