Former IAS Officer Shah Faesal Detained At Delhi Airport, Placed Under House Arrest In Kashmir

Former IAS officer Shah Faesal was detained by authorities at the Delhi airport on Wednesday and sent back to Kashmir, officials said. Faesal was again detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) on his arrival in Srinagar, they said. He was bound for Istanbul, the officials added.

Shah Faesal became the first Kashmiri to have topped the civil service examination in 2009. He quit IAS a few months back to join politics. He founded the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement party in association with former MLA Engineer Rashid, who is currently under arrest in a terror funding case.

Since resigning from the service, Faesal had been interacting with young achievers to solicit their support for his initiative of corruption-free, clean and transparent politics in the state. He had also launched a crowdfunding campaign in the last week of January to support his initiative.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Shah Faesal had expressed disappointment at the end of the ‘mainstream’ in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370. He said that one can now either be a “stooge or a separatist”.
